Notes from the Yard - Update from Paddy Twomey Racing
Hello to all our owners, supporters and friends of the yard,
As the curtain comes down on the 2025 flat season, it’s a fitting moment to reflect on what has been our most successful campaign to date. This year marked several important milestones for the yard, not only did we record our highest number of winners (42), but we also celebrated our first Royal Ascot victory and our first success in France.
French Success for Moyglare Stud
Our first French winner came courtesy of La Isla Mujeres, who produced a superb performance to capture the Group 3 Belle de Nuit Stakes at Saint-Cloud for owners Moyglare Stud.
Travelling strongly throughout, she quickened impressively to settle the race in a matter of strides, a richly deserved success for all her connections.
Having been beaten only once in her five-year-old campaign, when finishing second to the eventual Melbourne Cup runner-up, La Isla Mujeres has been a joy to train. She now retires to Moyglare Stud, and we look forward to following her next chapter.
New Additions
As always at this time of year, we look ahead as much as we look back. The yearling sales have brought some exceptionally promising new additions to the team, and we are delighted with the calibre of horses joining the yard.
With the bulk of the sales now behind us, we can reflect on what has been a very strong draft of recruits to go to war with in 2026. Among them are the progeny of some of the best sires, with a well-balanced mix of colts and fillies representing a wonderful group of owners. We are fortunate to have such support behind the next generation and hope to repay that confidence with success at the highest level.
Over the coming weeks, the new recruits will continue their education with their respective pre-trainers, the majority under the expert guidance of Conor Hoban, before joining us at Athassel House Stud ahead of Christmas. Watching them settle in and take their first steps in their new routines is one of the most rewarding parts of the year, and we look forward to seeing how they progress over the months ahead.
December Mares Sale
Attention now turns to the upcoming mares’ sales at Tattersalls, where a number of our well-bred fillies and mares will be offered, including Catalina Delcarpio, Magical Hope, Purple Lily, Super Sox and Seo Linn.
Each has given us memorable days on the track and brought great enjoyment to their connections.
Having competed at the highest level, including in Group and Classic company, they have each written their own chapter here in Golden.
We look forward to following their progress as they embark on the next stage of their careers, and, with a little luck, to welcoming some new recruits who might one day follow in their footsteps.
A Season To Remember
As the season concludes, we can take satisfaction in the progress made and the solid foundations laid for the year ahead. None of it would be possible without the incredible team here at Athassel, our loyal owners, and everyone who supports us day in and day out. Thank you for being part of the journey, it means the world to all of us.
Now it’s time to recharge a little, bring the young horses along, and start planning for what’s next. If this year is anything to go by, there’s plenty to be excited about.
Until next time,
Paddy
