One Look Stars Again at the Curragh - July Update from Paddy Twomey Racing

Good afternoon all and thank you for taking a moment to read through our July newsletter.

Our successful season has carried on into July, bringing us closer to achieving a new seasonal record for winners trained. Here's a brief look back at our recent achievements and a glimpse of what's ahead at Athassel House Stud.

Owner Robert JW Moran celebrates his Killarney win | Healy Racing

One Look Breaks New Ground

Almost two years ago, One Look burst onto the scene with a scintillating debut performance to win the Goffs Million. Now in her four-year-old campaign, she continues to star—proving she loves the Curragh just as much as her owners, the Connolly Racing Syndicate!

Stepping up in trip to 10f for the first time, the popular filly was given a confident ride by Wayne Lordan and ran out a convincing winner of the Group 3 Meadow Court Stakes.

That makes it three wins and a second from four runs at the Curragh for One Look, bringing her career prize money close to €800,000—a fun filly indeed.

Winning a Group 3 with a penalty on her first try at the trip was a strong performance and opens up some exciting options for her going forward.

She holds entries in the Nassau Stakes, we could also look at the Blandford Stakes on Champions Weekend and Arc Weekend at Longchamp.

Elana Osario Shows Stakes Class at Killarney

At the Killarney July Festival, Elana Osario showed class to get her head in front in a thrilling finish.

After finishing second a few weeks prior in a similar contest, giving 22lbs to the eventual winner, she handled the drop back to 11f well and dug deep to win.

As a four-year-old she looks to be still improving, physically and mentally and now rated 91 looks like a filly ready to tackle Stakes company.

It was a successful day for owner Robert JW Moran who also bred Red Hugh O'Donnell who won a maiden on the same card for Gillian Scott.

Phenomenal Filly lands Goffs €50,000 Bonus

On July 10th, Phenomenal Filly lived up to her name when running out an impressive winner of the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden at Leopardstown, picking up a Goffs €50,000 bonus in the process.

After a promising debut run at the Curragh on Derby Weekend, the daughter of Sioux Nation took a big step forward and looks an exciting prospect for owners Bond Thoroughbred Limited.

She has plenty of options going forward including the Goffs Million which could be a nice target.

Sky Captain Off the Mark on Debut

Sky Captain continued a good run of form for the Joyce family and for the progeny of Fracas with a winning debut at Roscommon this month.

Despite showing signs of greenness, the son of Irish 1,000 Guineas winner Saoire hit the front when it mattered in the concluding 12-furlong maiden under Billy Lee.

He should improve for the run and may now have the Galway Festival in his sights for his local connections.

Carmers on Route to the St Leger

After last month’s heroic Royal Ascot victory, Carmers is in fantastic form as a path is being mapped toward the St Leger at Doncaster.

The form of his Queen’s Vase win is shaping up well, with Scandinavia—fifth at Ascot—producing an impressive victory at the Newmarket July meeting. A rematch looks exciting!

The Voltigeur at York is a potential next step, while other Leger trials both here and in the UK are also under consideration. Staying at home and heading straight to Doncaster remains an option too, so plans will be firmed up in the coming weeks.

Billy Lee suffers a setback

Unfortunately, a nasty fall at Limerick Racecourse on 12th July resulted in a broken collarbone for our stable jockey, Billy Lee.

He underwent surgery on the injury last week, which went well, and we look forward to his return!
