Keep The Dream Alive

Hello to all our owners, supporters and friends of the yard,

As we roll into Book 1 this week, the dream is well and truly alive, both on and off the track, following a dream month for everyone at Athassel House.

The Red Lily Racing Syndicate celebrate Goffs Million success

The Goffs Million has been a fantastic race for the yard, and while we thought it might be impossible to top One Look’s devastating debut success back in 2023, a one-two in this year’s renewal certainly comes close.

Coming into the race, Trean already had the profile of a genuine Group 1 performer and dropping back into sales race company, that class ultimately came to the fore as he produced a brilliant performance under a typically ice-cool ride from Billy Lee.

For his syndicate, it was yet another magic result for a fantastic group of people. Red Lily Racing moved quickly to secure Trean shortly after he was advertised on paddytwomeyracing.com, (within just 30 minutes!) and their fast action could hardly have worked out better.

Bought for just €20,000 from Goffs Orby Book 2, Trean has now earned his syndicate an incredible €557,847 (plus a Goffs €50k bonus!) , with hopefully plenty more still to come.

To win the Goffs Million is a dream, but to train the one-two with just two runners in the field, for two fantastic syndicates, was a result hard to put into words.

Hi Corbett Court produced a career-best under Siobhan Rutledge. An €85,000 purchase, he has now improved an incredible 31 lbs in his last two starts.

Bought by the enthusiastic Corbett family syndicate with one clear goal – to compete in the Goffs Million – he gave them a day to remember, along with a nice €224,689 payday!

Both Red Lily Racing and Corbett Racing were active at Goffs again last week in search of their next Million winner. Hopefully, we’ll see both back on the big stage in 2027!

Joga Bonito wins the Listed Star Appeal Stakes for Tony Bloom & Ian McAleavy

The second half of the season has been hugely rewarding. While our older horse team may have been lighter than in previous years, we had a strong belief that this could be our best bunch of two-year-olds to date – and they have certainly lived up to expectations.

As we enter the twilight of the season, we sit third in the Irish Trainers’ Championship and are closing in on €2 million in domestic prize money. However, it is the performances of our two-year-olds that we will likely look back on most fondly when the winter frost arrives.

Of our 15 individual two-year-old runners this season, 11 have visited the winners’ enclosure and seven have earned black type.

There looks to be plenty more to come from this exciting group, including a Breeders Cup trip for Velozee who has dined at the top table throughtout the season and given connections great fun. Hopefully, she can give them another day to remember at Keeneland.

While it’s exciting to look ahead to next season with our current flag-bearers, there’s no time to rest on our laurels, and the search for the next stars is already well underway.

As always, there was plenty of quality on show at last week’s Goffs Orby Sale, where we were active across both Books 1 and 2, operating at every level of the budget.

It was fantastic to welcome both new and existing connections back on board for 2027 with some smart purchases, and we hope to do the same during another busy week ahead in Newmarket.

We believe there is a horse for every budget, and our results this season are proof that you don’t need a huge spend to dream big. If you’ve ever thought about getting involved, 2027 could be your year. Get in touch and let us help you find your next horse, and hopefully your next winner.

RECENT HIGHLIGHTS

“He'd probably have been a Group One horse if he'd have kept right and he just showed what he can do there today."

"You'd be hoping she'd be a nice, stronger filly next year. She's very straightforward, great attitude and just gets on with her job.”

"He's a horse that will progress well next year. That would be it for this year.”

“She had good form. It's her eighth run, she's hardy, tough, sound and she loves fast ground,”

“I think with the drop back to five (furlongs) now you are seeing the real filly.”

“I'll think about it and I'd say we'll go into the winter after that. You'd then have a nice filly for an Oaks trial next spring.”

“I ran was because we were running out of Goffs bonus race options. Today's race was the final one, and Paddy Hale (owner) worked with Goffs many years ago, so it was great to get E50,000 back.”
